Chicago TMS Treatment

The TMS treatment at Able Psychiatry has flexibility since it’s being followed by a literature-competent, TMS experienced psychiatrist. Since we’re a smaller office in Chicago, we also allow for greater transportation and appointment flexibility (allowing for drop-ins during the day).

Suffering from Depression?

Living with depression is hard, but can be especially difficult when one treatment after another doesn’t help. You lose hope. Will you ever feel better? Finding the right treatment can take time but TMS may be the treatment that will make you feel like you again.

Abdullah Sallaj, M.D.
Abdullah Sallaj, M.D.Board Certified, Private Practice Psychiatrist

I'm Dr. Abdullah Sallaj (sounds like saw-lodge), M.D. I'm a University of Chicago trained, board-certified physician psychiatrist.

I received my Doctor of Medicine degree from The University at Buffalo School of Medicine in Buffalo, New York. I hold a B.A. in Philosophy along with a science background. I was born in Buffalo, New York.

I treat adults and adolescents (patients aged 12 years and up). In addition to evaluation and medication management,

I strive for thoughtful solution-focused treatments. These encompass both short-term relief, as well as long-term and sustainable treatment. You should expect our meetings to be unhurried, non-judgmental, on-time, and to move at your own pace.

My practice is guided by, but not restricted to, known standards for treatment and evaluation. Standards often change as they are constantly reevaluated by the medical and scientific community.

I have a policy of being open to patients of all identities, orientations, and beliefs; I urge you to bring your differences. I'm also very strict regarding privacy concerns.

The only thing I ask is for your participation; I believe that collaboration leads to data, which leads to better outcomes.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a series of repetitive, brief and highly focused magnetic pulses, used to stimulate brain cells. TMS therapy is an effective, non-invasive, outpatient treatment with few known adverse effects.

TMS is typically prescribed when antidepressants have failed, or the side effects have proven too disruptive to a patient’s lifestyle or system. This may be called treatment resistant depression, or TRD.

Learn more about TMS therapy and Magstim® treatment equipment.

TMS therapy is indicated for adults with Major Depressive Disorder, who have failed to achieve satisfactory improvement from prior antidepressant medication in the current episode.

TMS is a safe and well-tolerated treatment with few known adverse effects. Clinical trials show that the most common side effects are mild to moderate scalp discomfort and mild headaches, both of which are short-term.

At Able TMS, we believe in delivering high performance, versatile TMS solutions so that our patients receive the best treatment possible.

Magstim® uses transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) to target key areas of the brain that are underactive in people with depression. It is not ECT (electroconvulsive therapy).

Treatment with Magstim® TMS is easy:

– Therapy sessions are conducted in your doctor’s office
– You can return to normal activities right away
– You are awake during treatment
– There are no negative effects on memory or sleep
– It’s covered by many health insurance plans
